CEOs Rise to the Challenge

Fundi's David Mierowsky was one of the 107 WA participants who took part in the 2011 Vinnies CEO Sleepout. This year's event was held on Thursday 16 June at the WACA ground, Perth, and was a great success, raising almost $600,000 in WA and $4 million nationally.

The purpose of the event is to raise awareness and much needed funds in support of the 105,000 homeless Australians. Business and community leaders such as David were challenged to experience homelessness first-hand for just one night.

Participants listened to the stories of people who have lived through periods of homelessness and were able to rebuild their lives with help from the St Vincent de Paul Society. Then, with cardboard for a mattress, it was time to bunk down for the night. David chose a corner of the concrete grandstand over the damp WACA outfield.

David said:

It was really great to see so many people turn out to help this worthwhile cause. While I had quite an uncomfortable night it was a lot better than what the 13,000 homeless Western Australians have to experience every night. The evening certainly made me a lot more aware of their plight and I plan to take part again next year.

It's not too late to sponsor David and help this worthwhile cause. Click here to make your donation:
